‘Welcome To The 60’s’… ‘Hairspray’ Premieres In Hollywood

LOS ANGELES, Calif. (July 10, 2007) – A ‘Hair’-raising good time took place in Westwood this evening, as the movie-turned-Broadway musical-turned-movie musical, “Hairspray,” rolled out the red carpet for its A-List stars. “High School Musical 2” co-stars Ashley Tisdale & Vanessa Hudgens joined man-of-the-evening Zac Efron, who plays “Link Larkin” in the film. They all lit up the red carpet, and seemed stoked about the “HSM” sequel’s turnout. Tisdale told Access Hollywood that she had just seen the film for the first time, and that it looked like a hit! (Tune in Friday to Access for a first look from the set of “HSM 2”!)

But it was Queen Latifah who stole the show, revealing an intense new ‘do of her own – platinum blonde locks.Access’ Tony Potts was the first to get a picture with the Queen.“The Queen’s new blonde locks were shockingly cool when she stepped up to our platform to chat… but it’s the shocking ‘thing’ that happened when she got up there that you can see only on Access Hollywood Wednesday night,” Potts reports. Allison Janney and Efron both dressed in 60’s-themed garb. Janney told Potts that her look was modeled after Julie Christie in “Shampoo.” Amanda Bynes wore a short green Dolce & Gabbana dress and Jimmy Choo shoes. Michelle Pfeiffer arrived on the arm of her husband, producer David E. Kelley. Their children snuck in beforehand and Michelle remarked she was sure that they were already snackin’ on popcorn.Newcomer Nikki Blonsky only just made it to the premiere, having rushed over from a taping of “The Tonight Show With Jay Leno.”“I was sitting in between Jay Leno and Adam Sandler, who would of thought?,” Blonsky said. “Just let me put it out there — who would of thought? Really! I don’t know, it’s unbelievable.”John Travolta, who plays Blonsky’s mom “Edna Turnblad” in the film, is unabashed about how protective he’s become of the young star-in-the-making. He sang her praises again tonight.“Well, she’s a smart girl so she needs minimum protection. But I’m an old geezer so I can see where she does need some protection. So I’ve thrown my 2 cents in when it was necessary, OK. And I think I’ve helped here and there. But she’s a sophisticated girl,” Travolta said.
