John Mark Karr?s appearance at an extradition hearing in a Los Angeles courtroom to face first-degree murder charges for the death of JonBenet Ramsey lasted just three minutes.
As for what was happening outside the courtroom, Access Hollywood?s Tony Potts was on hand to see the media blitz.
The media waited patiently for any news and at 10:03 they got it.
?His statements are taken out of context,? attorney Jamie Harmon told the press. Harmon?s Their role representing Karr has not been clearly defined. ?There’s soundbites made by Mr. Karr in the throng of the media and you should know that he actually suffered physical injuries as a result of being pressed by camera people in Thailand.?
Harmon was defending Karr?s initial statements. She visited Karr Monday, along with attorney Patience Van Zandt, who represented Karr back in 2001.
Karr, represented in court by a public defender, agreed to waive extradition to Boulder, Colo.
Which means that all the media will be packing up and heading to Boulder too. All this as some disturbing audio tapes are revealed.
?Good Morning America? aired secret tapes made in 2001 by Wendy Hutchens, who was working with prison inmates, when, she claims, Karr contacted her as part of his research into Polly Klaas? murder.
?I’ve kissed little girls on the mouth and they’ve most of the time initiated the kiss,? said Karr, on the tapes.
Hutchens became a confidential police informant and recorded 20 hours of conversations with Karr.
In one, he seemed to allude to JonBenet?s death.
?I just bashed her in the head,? said Karr, on the tapes. ?I mean can you say that to a mother or a father about this person you’re supposed to love so much??
ABC News will air more of the tapes as part of their summer series, ?Primetime: the Outsiders? Tuesday night.
