The celebrity community continues to react with shock and sadness over the loss of Whitney Houston, who died on Saturday at the age of 48.
The morning following the tragic news, Oprah Winfrey took to Twitter to remember the singing great.
“To me Whitney was THE VOICE,” Oprah Tweeted on Sunday morning.
“We got to hear a part of God every time she sang,” she continued. “Heart is heavy, spirit grateful for the GIFT of her.”
Houston was also remembered by country music legend Dolly Parton, who penned and first recorded “I Will Always Love You,” one of Houston’s most successful songs.
“Mine is only one of the millions of hearts broken over the death of Whitney Houston,” Parton said in a statement posted on her Facebook account.
“I will always be grateful and in awe of the wonderful performance she did on my song,” her statement continued. “I can truly say from the bottom of my heart, ‘Whitney, I will always love you. You will be missed.’”
And on Sunday afternoon, the Houston family issued a statement.
“We are devastated by the loss of our beloved Whitney. This is an unimaginable tragedy and we will miss her terribly. We appreciate the outpouring of love and support from her fans and friends,” the statement read.
