Why Drew Carey Saw His ‘Dancing’ Elimination Coming

Drew Carey may have danced his last tango inside the ballroom with pro partner Cheryl Burke, but the comedian said his time on “Dancing with the Stars” was nothing short of a dream come true.

“It really was like a fantasy,” Drew told Access Hollywood’s Shaun Robinson following the pair’s elimination on Monday night. “Just being able to do any kind of ballroom dance at all, you know? … I was watching the show and I thought, ‘I wonder if I could do that?’”

Drew and Cheryl earned a 32 out of 40 for their final number – which featured Drew dressed up as a pimp (literally!), but even before hitting the dance floor, the “Price Is Right” host had a feeling it would be his last dance.

“I thought tonight was the night for sure,” Drew told Shaun. “I was so far behind in judges’ points, I didn’t think there was a way I could come back. But I was so mentally prepared for it. I’m all packed for New York… I’ve got theater plans, I’ve got a hotel all ready to go!”

Joking aside, Drew offered nothing but praise for his “DWTS” partner Cheryl – even if he gave her a hard time during the season.

“You know, I was in the Marine Corps and I also gave my drill instructor a hard time… you know, people have coaches, they give their coaches a hard time,” Drew said of his working relationship with Cheryl. “It’s no different than that. There’s a lot of love there.

“It’s like… somebody’s been telling you, ‘Do this! Do that! Do this!’ all day, you’re like…,” Drew continued.

“Yeah, you want to like beat them up afterwards,” Cheryl smiled. “I get it.”

“Dancing with the Stars” continues Monday on ABC.
