Will Smith Faced Challenges To Find The ‘Happyness’

Will Smith says the director he worked with on his latest movie wasn’t going to let him off easy.

It seems Smith isn’t one to let his feelings show all that much. And because
of that, when he acts, he puts on certain faces to portray various emotions.

But he says when he was starring in “The Pursuit of Happyness,” the director wasn’t having any of that. He says at one point, he was sent home because all the director felt he was getting was Smith “making faces” to fit his character’s emotions, instead of feeling emotions.

Smith says when he was trying to look hurt, he was told to go away and stay gone until “you hurt for real.”

This was only the second time that a director was able to get more out of him as an actor because they — as he put it — “know all my tricks.”

“The Pursuit of Happyness” fits right in with Will Smith’s life plan.He says he’s out to move people, to make them feel good.

Smith says he has a “deep desire to do good” and wants “the world to be better” because of him. He shares the power of positive thinking as the real-life guy he plays in the movie, who went from being homeless to a multi-millionaire.

Smith says he has no doubt he could be president or pilot the space shuttle if he put his mind to it.

“The Pursuit of Happyness” opens today.
