‘Wonder Woman’ Sneak Peek Offers Glimpse Of Origin Story (Watch)

Kevin Smith and DC Comics’
Chief Creative Officer Geoff Johns gave “Wonder Woman” fans their
first sneak peek at the upcoming standalone film on Tuesday night.

During the CW’s “Dawn
of the Justice League” special, Geoff revealed details about the Gal
Gadot-led movie’s plot, and information about her character’s history.

“Wonder
Woman’s like one of the greatest superheroes out there, but people don’t know
her origins like they know Superman’s origin and Batman’s origin. So, what we
want to do in the film is really tell people who she is, where she comes from
and why she does what she does,” Geoff said. “We’ve never seen it on
film before.”

Wonder Woman, aka Diana
Prince, is “the best fighter in the DC universe,” according to Geoff,
as she has incredible strength and speed (and has been training her whole life
for war).

Born an Amazon, her race
was created to protect humans, but no longer believe people are worthy of their
guard – something which with Wonder Woman takes issue.

“Diana is asking
constantly, ‘Why don’t we go do what we were created to do and protect man?’
They say, ‘Because they’re not worth it.’ And this takes her on a journey into
our world,” Geoff explained, adding that the superhero “stands for
equality, and that’s really important. I think that’s why people love the
character.”

While Chris Pine will play
Diana’s love interest, Steve Trevor, the movie won’t be a sappy love story.

“The greatest thing
about Wonder Woman is how good and kind and loving she is, yet none of that
negates any of her power,” “Wonder Woman” director Patty Jenkins
said.

“Telling a story like
this now is pivotal and important,” Chris added. “The story of a very
powerful woman.”
