X-Men: Days Of Future Past: Ian McKellen Planning On Giving Michael Fassbender A ‘Run For His Money’

Will Magneto face off against Magneto in the upcoming “X-Men: First Class”?

Access Hollywood caught up with Ian McKellen at the junket for “The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey,” where he weighed on Michael Fassbender, who played the younger version of his mutant hero-turned villain.

“First class I would say,” the actor said (a nod to the title) when Access asked about Fassbender’s performance in the 2011 ?? prequel film. “I thought he was terrific.”

But with the original Professor X and Magneto – Patrick Stewart and Ian – returning in Bryan Singer’s next installment in the Marvel series – the younger guys (James McAvoy and Fassbender) and might have some competition from the older guys.

“We’ll give him a run for his money when we get there,” he told Access.

Does the movie’s time-traveling story mean a young Magento will meet old Magneto in an epic mutant faceoff?

Ian, who told Access that he has yet to read a script, was intrigued by the possibility.

“Two Magnetos together?” he said with a smile. “Who knows!”

“X-Men: Days of Future Past” is slated to hit theaters in summer 2014. First catch Ian in “The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey,” in theaters on Friday.
