Yvonne Strahovski Is An Angel For Animals; Unveils New PETA Campaign

“Chuck” star Yvonne Strahovski is fighting for her best friends – namely, her rescued dogs, Chazzie and Wilbur – in a new campaign she’s launched with PETA.

The trio has teamed up for a brand-new “Adopt, Don’t Buy” PETA campaign. In the ad, which was shot by top celebrity photographer Robert Sebree, Strahovski appears as Chazzie’s and Wilbur’s guardian angel below the words, “Be an Angel for Animals. Always Adopt. Never Buy.”

“There are just so many dogs that are just as gorgeous — whether they’re mixed or purebred or whatever — they’re all gorgeous, and they all have personalities, and they all need a home,” Strahovski said. “I come home from a hard day at work, and I see these two happy faces when I walk in the door, and it’s unconditional love.

“There’s something like … 7 to 8 million animals that are homeless, and half of those dogs get euthanized, and it’s really sad.”

The holiday season is an especially rough time of year for unwanted animals. Buying a cat or a dog from a pet store or breeder is a death sentence for an animal awaiting adoption in a shelter. According to PETA, shelters see a spike in homeless animals every year after the holidays as families find themselves unable to care for the puppies and kittens they purchased as gifts.

PETA advises that during the busy holiday season, animals should never be given as surprise gifts. Caring for a dog can be a 20-year commitment, so the decision to take a dog home should be carefully weighed by the whole family and never be made on a whim.
