An attorney named to oversee the estate of Gary Coleman said Thursday the late actor’s remains have been cremated.
Attorney Robert Jeffs released a statement saying the remains were cremated at 5:15 p.m. Thursday at a mortuary in Sandy, a Salt Lake City suburb.
“The proceeding was conducted in accordance with Mr. Coleman’s desires as expressed in his will that no funeral service, wake or other ceremony memorialize his passing,” the brief statement said.
Jeffs earlier this week revealed that Coleman’s 2005 will specified that he wanted no funeral services.
Coleman died at age 42 on May 28 after suffering a brain hemorrhage. The former child TV star had fallen two days earlier at his home in Santaquin, about 55 miles south of Salt Lake City.
His cremation had been on hold because of legal wrangling over his assets.
A Utah judge on Monday named Jeffs the special administrator of Coleman’s estate following a dispute between the “Diff’rent Strokes” star’s ex-wife, Shannon Price, and ex-girlfriend, Anna Gray. Both contend they are the lawful administrators of Coleman’s estate.
Jeffs has said Coleman’s ashes and property will be securely stored until a final determination is made on an estate executor. It’s a decision Jeffs said could take months.
