Vanity Fair says its annual Academy Awards party is returning for next year’s Oscar night on Feb. 22. The magazine’s 2008 bash was canceled in support of the Hollywood writers’ strike.

Lil Wayne was named lyricist of the year and Russell Simmons was honored as a hip-hop icon at this year’s BET Hip-Hop Awards taped on Saturday in Atlanta.
The New Orleans rapper, who was nominated for 12 awards, was also named MVP of the Year and the Alltel Wireless People’s Champ at the ceremony, which was hosted by T-Pain instead of scheduled host, comedian Katt Williams.

Late-night talk show host/comedian Jimmy Kimmel will return to host the “2008 American Music Awards,” marking his fifth time as host. The live broadcast will take place at the Nokia Theatre L.A. Live on Sunday, November 23 at 8 PM ET on ABC.
“The AMAs reflect pop culture through music, while at the same time celebrating the fans and audiences,” said Orly Adelson, president of Dick Clark Productions, producers of the awards show. “We are delighted that Jimmy Kimmel will be joining us once again to emcee the AMA’s.
