Backstreet's Back, Again! Backstreet Boys Announce Reunion Album, Concert
The ‘90s were a trademark period for the explosion of pop in an emerging music television culture, giving rise to one of the best-selling boy band sensations to sweep the nation with their talent, looks and charm: The Backstreet Boys.
Unfortunately, things were never the same when Kevin Richardson announced he would be leaving the group to pursue his own interests back in 2006. But as of Wednesday, the Backstreet Boys changed their status from “Incomplete” to fully reunited with Kevin’s announcement that he would be returning to record a new album with the four other band members.
“Being back with my brothers again feels great. I love these guys,” Kevin said in a statement. “We have gone through so much together. We just have a chemistry … a bond that will always be.”
The Backstreet Boys are scheduled to perform together for the first time in seven years on “Good Morning America’s” Summer Concert Series in Central Park on Friday, August 31. The day also marks the boy band’s 20th anniversary since they made their U.S. debut in 1997 with the chart-topping single “Quit Playing Games With My Heart.”
To continue the celebration of their 20th anniversary, the Backstreet Boys will also be honored with a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame in Los Angeles.
“Having Kevin back in the mix adds that extra special magic to our group,” Brian Litrell said. “We’re over the moon to have him back and it’s a great way to give back to our fans.”
While remaining members Nick Carter, Howie Dorough, A.J. McLean and Brian were able to certify their new album “Never Gone” platinum during Kevin’s absence from the group, their singles never reached the same level of popularity as it did in the ‘90s.
Nick, Howie, Brian, AJ and Kevin are currently in a London studio with Martin Terefe, the same producer who has worked with artists like Mary J. Blige, Train and Jason Mraz. The album is set to release in the spring of 2013 with more details to come.
