LOS ANGELES, Calif. --
David Beckham may be celebrating his one-year anniversary with the Los Angeles Galaxy in sunny Southern California, but he hasn’t fully adopted the American lifestyle.
“I still love Sunday roasts,” Beckham told Britain’s The Sun in a new interview. “Victoria cooked one for the boys the other day but I was away. I was quite jealous of that.”
And though he can get a traditional gravy-dripped meat meal with Yorkshire pudding from his former Spice Girls singing wife in their fancy Los Angeles home, he admitted sometimes he longs for home.
“I will always miss England. Everyone knows I am passionate about my country and playing there. I miss my family, friends and a good old English pub,” Becks said. “There are a couple over here, actually… but I do miss a pub with a good lager shandy and a Sunday lunch while watching [soccer].”
Though Becks has adopted American past times, like watching basketball (he was regularly spotted at Lakers games this year), the soccer star has held on to his London twang.
“After being here 12 months, I don’t have an American accent but the kids are starting to get one,” Becks, father to Brooklyn, Romeo and Cruz, said. “They’re at school every day and learning different things about America. This is to be expected. I lived in Manchester and didn’t get the accent. I’ve always sounded like a Londoner.”
He admitted to the paper that sometimes his teammates don’t understand him. But he seems to have no problems when heading out with celebrity supercouple – Frenchman Tony Parker and Texas-bred Eva Longoria Parker.
“I have gone out to dinner with Tony as Victoria is good friends with Eva. We’ve been out a couple of times, in fact,” he said. “I used to watch basketball when I was living in England. It’s a great sport. I love sports that are fast and passionate.”
