overview
Born in Houston, Texas, in 1981, Beyoncé Giselle Knowles is one of the hottest artists on the scene today. She’s an award-winning singer — both with her former girl group, Destiny’s Child, and in her solo career. She’s been nominated for acting awards for dramatic roles, and has also appeared in comedies. And, she’s even joined a super-elite set as a cover model for the iconic “Sports Illustrated” swimsuit issue.
It seems as if Beyoncé has always known she’d make it big. And so did everyone around her. After she appeared on, (but didn’t win) “Star Search” in 1992, her father quit his well-paid job to manage her band. Today, it’s definitely still a family affair, with her father continuing to manage her career. Her mother, Tina, is the designer for her onstage creations and their clothing line, House of Dereon. Even little sister, Solange, also a singer and actress, has danced on her tours.
Although Destiny’s Child officially disbanded in 2005, Beyoncé is still close with her fellow band members, cousin Kelly Rowland and friend Michelle Williams, both of whom remain busy with their own careers.
