welcome back to "access hollywood live". We spoke earlier with tom hanks about type 2 diabetes that he revealed just last month. 1 in over 25 million people in the u.S. That have diabetes like tom. This is diabetes awareness month and fitness expert and spokesperson bob green tells us how to prevent these numbers jumped off the page to me. It's really amazing. Actually represents about 8% a little more of our population has diabetes. You say 79 million more have pre-diabetes condition. I even think that estimate is low because we did random samples in new york and people didn't know they had it, didn't know they had it, had it. Very frequent numbers. What does it mean. You do a quick blood sugar test. We d.People didn't think they had any condition at all and they turned up having pre-diabetes. All right so diabetes risk factor over the age of 45 mostly. Yes. Right and being over weight. Not enough exercise having high bloop. Why african americans, hispanic more than caucasian? Primarily due to lifestyle. So foods that are consumed. Are the primary reason. Talk about what we can do. No.1 thing eat healthy. That's right. And beautiful thing is the diet you recommend for someone with difficult beats is really the diet you recommend for everyone. And the key here is get empty calorie out of your life and replace it with food that has really good nutrition. Empty calorie all the time what is it. Empty calorie food you condition assume that doesn't benefit from you nutrition standpoint at all so simply layering on and actually it pushes out the desire to have the healthy food. So it's a double hit you eat something like an empty calorie such as soda. Soda is the worst. We hear it over and over again. Be gone from everybody diet. I can't tell you how many people throw out that one bench and they reach the goal weight by eliminating soda. Even diet too. Yes. Tea is a good alternative. Water. Obviously the best alternative. With a little fruit juice in it if you want. Coffee now is considered by some as a super food. Okay. White bread okay. White bread over here. Obviously the whole wheat that much different. Yes it is. I don't see that much difference between soda and white bread so that's something you should take out. Good news is these days it's so common to see really good quality whole grain bread that's the replace many. What about this. Which is better. Night and day. You want to get rid of unhealthy fat either in the form of butter or the spread that have trans-fat in them. Get those out of your life and replace with olive oil or healthy spread. Keep hearing it. I can't believe it's not that healthy. Be active. We have to get moving. How much how much a day. Well that's the problem. Health professional there's some magic. An hour a day. Most people cringe at that. Whatever you are willing to do will benefit your life but I recommend 60 minutes if you can do it. Of cardio. Of cardio. What do you do. I do 60 and have for years. Look at this guy. Look at him. He is fit. 60 you are like running for 60. Mix it up. Do 20 on stairs or minutes running great exercise low impact get on the tread mill and do a really high grade and that's very low impact is, impact comes from speed so get that grade up there and just do a nice light pace.
