With producer Brett Ratner and host Eddie Murphy departed from the 2012 Academy Awards and Oscar-winning producer Brian Grazer in, the attention has now turned to the vacant host position.
Soon after Murphy stepped down from the hosting gig, a campaign on Twitter and Facebook sprung up lobbying for The Muppets – who have a movie opening on November 23 – to get the job. Currently, over 20,000 people on Facebook have “liked” their fan page.

Producer Brian Grazer is looking for a particular type of star to host the 2012 Oscars – someone who is hungry for the gig.
“It’s the best job in the world, it’s a hard job,” he told Access Hollywood correspondent Tim Vincent on Thursday in Los Angeles. “You really want someone who’s almost looking at it as a sort of civil servant, where they’re feeling like, ‘We’re thrilled to be here, dying to do it, waking up early, I’m thinking about it all night.’”
