Bristol Shoots Back Against Claims Mom Sarah Forced Her To Dance
Bristol Palin is firing back at her fellow “Dancing” castmate, Margaret Cho, after the comedienne suggested the 20-year-old former “Dancing with the Stars” contender was forced to join the show by her mother — former Alaskan Governor and Vice-Presidential candidate Sarah Palin.
“Sarah supposedly blames Bristol harshly and openly (in the circles that I heard it from) for not winning the election,” Margaret wrote in a blog titled “Pistol Whipped,” posted on her personal website on November 29. “So she told Bristol she ‘owed’ it to her to do ‘DWTS’ so that ‘America would fall in love with her again’ and make it possible for Sarah Palin to run in 2012 with America behind her all the way.”
The young mom hit back at Margaret’s claims via an open letter on her Facebook page, calling the comments a “hurtful and false narrative that people promote” to make her famous mother “look bad.”
“I will give my friend credit for creativity, and extra points for getting so many ‘facts’ wrong in so few sentences,” Bristol wrote on Saturday. “Let me be blunt: my mom did not ‘force’ me to go on ‘DWTS.’ She did not ask me either. The show approached me. I thought about it. I made the decision.”
Bristol said she chose to “set the record straight” for the love of her mom, writing, “For 20 years my mom had my back--and for the rest of my life I will have hers.”
In addition to Margaret’s political accusations, the outspoken comic also complimented Bristol, and said she considers the Alaska native a “friend” — despite pressure to find fault with the teen abstinence advocate.
“Everyone was trying to pit me against Bristol, but the truth is, we got along well,” Margaret wrote. “…Although I don’t agree with the family’s politics at all, I really like Bristol as a person. She’s warm and incredibly supportive, and I think that she looks beautiful out on the dance floor.”
In response to Margaret’s disagreement with the Palin family politics, Bristol invited her “friend” to give her a call, and took a stab at the 42-year-old’s frequent support of the LGBT community.
“If you ever have a question, call me, girlfriend,” Bristol wrote. “You say you ‘don’t agree with the family’s politics at all’ but I say, if you understood that common sense conservative values supports the right of individuals like you, like all of us… you would embrace us faster than KD Lang at an Indigo Girls concert.”
