LOS ANGELES, Calif. --

A Los Angeles judge made no ruling today in the latest court hearing involving a case brought against Britney Spears for driving without a valid California license.

LA City attorneys filed charges against Spears last year, following a hit and run incident in Studio City. Paparazzi cameras were rolling as Spears frequented a shopping plaza capturing her as she wheeled her Mercedes into a parking space, grazing the side of another car. She failed to leave a note on the other car or attempt to contact the vehicle’s owner, it appeared.

She did however, get out of her car, look at the damage to her own vehicle, before later, driving away.

While Spears eventually settled a case with the woman whose car she hit, authorities determined that the singer did not have a valid California driver’s license during the incident and filed charges against her.

Since the incident, Spears has been placed under a conservatorship, headed up by her father, Jamie, and co-conservator Andrew Wallet. Because of the current situation with the singer, the city attorney and Spears’ lawyers both decided to continue the case to June 18, hoping Britney will not have a conservator by that time.

Spears’ lawyer for today’s proceedings, Charlie Unger, hopes to work things out with city attorneys and wants the misdemeanor charge reduced to an infraction, which is a fine.

"We’re still hoping we can work this all out," Unger told Access Hollywood outside the courtroom.

As for the city attorney’s office, they are still pushing for a misdemeanor.

"While she’s under a conservatorship, we’re in a holding pattern," city attorney Michael Amerian told Access. "Nothing that’s happened in this case is affected by her celebrity status."

Spears was not present in court but Unger gave Access an update on her well being.

"She seems to be getting her life together," he said. "She has a crime free life and that’s how we want to keep it."
