LOS ANGELES, Calif. --

Britney Spears is heading back to primetime.

The embattled pop singer, who previously appeared on an episode of NBC’s "Will & Grace," has a new sitcom role on the cards.

Britney has a small part in CBS’ "How I Met Your Mother," the comedy starring Alyson Hannigan and Neil Patrick Harris, a rep for the show confirmed to Access Hollywood.

It is not known when she will film the role.

Britney isn’t the only member of the Spears family to take a part in a sitcom. Jamie Lynn Spears, Britney’s younger sister and the star of "Zoey 101," has a guest role in ABC’s new series, "Miss Guided."

Jamie Lynn plays a promiscuous high schooler in the March 20 episode of the show, which stars Judy Greer.

As previously reported on AccessHollywood.com, 16-year-old Jamie Lynn is pregnant with her first child, due later this year.
