Bruno Tonioli's Early 'DWTS' Analysis
“Dancing with the Stars” judge Bruno Tonioli chats with Billy Bush and Kit Hoover on Access Hollywood Live about the new Season 18 cast. How quickly into a season can he determine the frontrunners? And, how difficult will it be to judge the first double-amputee competitor in the show’s history, Amy Purdy? Season 18 of “Dancing with the Stars” premieres March 17 at 8/7c on ABC.
I decided to do the show -- honestly, I just believed I could do it. Do you recognize it? I recognize that anywhere. That is a Russian hotel. We stayed in one for long enough, you know. Rehearsing for season 18 of "Dancing with the stars." Amy is in sochi, Russia, competing in the paralympic games. The first double amputee to compete on "Dancing with the stars." Joining us is Bruno to tell us all about the cast -- who did you have to Google? When you read the names, did you know who everybody was? Sean Avery? Of course I did. No. Of course I it. I have idea. I just came from London. I just finished a tour because the show in the UK finishes at Christmas and then a tour of the country. I just arrived and it looks pretty good. I -- you know, until I see them dance, every season is the same. People speculate. It is impossible to speculate until you see at least two shows. You have to do a round of Latin and a round of ballroom. Then you have an idea. The personality starts to catch. The chemistry starts to work. So that is what's always interesting about the show you can never really predict. People say they should be doing this and the other one doing that, it is impossible to tell. But it is exciting because weigh got the skatingmpions, you know, world champions. They know how to dance. It's not quite the same. You are speculating already. Wait and see. That's what we do. 0 our job is to speculate and then once things happen, weigh A that's how we go down. Derek hough choreographed their routine in sochi. Forget about them. Let's talk about this woman right here. It is incredible. The double amputee, the strength, the courage, to change your life around. As a charnlg. How will you judge her? You have to forget about it. I never see the people before and you have to criticize the dance. She's not going to get extra points for it. You have to -- you have to be fair. Heather mills. If she does well, she does well. Obviously it's a huge, huge challenge. Just the fact she does it is incredible. We're not going to give her 10s because she shows up. I would. Week one, you don't see them, and then week three, because she will make it that far. She has moves. And she's in good hands. It's a challenge. I can't wait for her to wear a mini skirt, lift the legs out, look at me go. 3survival fr meningitis. You don't know Sean Avery but I hope he is your vafs. Shoulders like a terminator. Inscrutable. It is a good combination. But five athletes, is that the most you've ever had? It's the most we've ever had and I like that. The people have determination to win. They come back and they fight to see who is the best and I love the energy. Hopefully they will bring it to the show. Every season, our dancers do some of the best work they ever did. The choreography, what they came up with, and this is going to be the 18 seasons for a long time and every week I was watching, you do amazing work. We give you a score based on that dance routine and your partner, but creatively they were amazing. So I am sure that season 18 with all the little changes we're going to put in will be even better. Especially the winner. Remember the winner? I don't remember. Who won? It was on the tip of my tongue. There's a lot of speculation and talk with about the celebrities but I think our dancers are so much part of the show as well. Maks is back. There will be a little bit of energy going on there within the boys and competition. It's great. And they're going to outdo each other, I am sure. They do such a fantastic job. Bruno, don't move. There's more controversy. And we're going to address it. Break it down. Also, the replacing of Brooke with Erin Andrews. I know that was your decision. Me? More with Bruno coming up.
