Candace Cameron Bure may spend her days on the set of the ABC Family hit “Make It or Break It,” walking around 20-somethings in leotards, but the former “Full House” star has no qualms about it.
“I really do feel like I’m in better shape and look better now — even after having three kids — than I did before,” Candace recently told AccessHollywood.com, while promoting Season 2 of her Monday night primetime drama about life in the gymnastics world
Despite her busy schedule that sometimes includes 3:30 AM call times, Candace manages to fit in workouts, sometimes combining them with family time. The actress revealed that with her three children – Natasha, Lev and Maksim, off school for summer break, her husband, former ice hockey star Valeri Bure, coaches the family in physical fitness.
“Val pretty much trains us in the summertime, which is awesome,” she explained of workouts that include activities like 30-minute beach runs. “I’m in good shape for me, but it’s not that much better shape than the kids are in… So we pretty much do the same workout.”
As Summer, the co-gym manager for the “Rock Rebels” in “Make It or Break It,” the actress deals more with drama than parallel bars, but she does go head over heels in another way – her character’s romance with gymnastic coach Sasha, played by former “FlashForward” star Neil Jackson.
“Yes, it’s all about the Sasha-Summer romance, so that’s definitely what my character’s all about,” Candace laughed of her Season 2 story line. “I’m at the gym all the time and they’re definitely playing up the romance between Summer and Sasha. They’re really at opposite ends of their world view and yet they’re clearly attracted to one another, so they’re gonna string you along for quite some time to see whether it’s gonna work or not.”
One person who isn’t pulling for the pair is Candace’s husband Val, who watches her show, except for the romantic parts involving his wife.
“My husband would rather not watch it at all when I have, you know, with the Summer Sasha stuff. He’s like, ‘Ah!’” she said. “But that’s quite OK. He is super supportive and loves that I love what I’m doing. But yeah, some of those scenes we just skip over.”
