LOS ANGELES, Calif. -- Brad Pitt as the Unabomber? Heath Ledger and Sean Penn plant a “Tree.” Plus, Wynona Ryder and Julianne Moore reveal their “Private Lives.” It’s all in the latest Access Hollywood Casting Call…
Brad Pitt’s Plan B production company is looking into producing a biopic about Unabomber Ted Kaczynski, according to New York magazine.
The story would follow Kaczynski, the bearded U.S. terrorist who killed three and left nearly two dozen people injured with his letter bombs.
Pitt’s publicist, Cindy Gaugenti, confirmed to New York magazine that Plan B is “looking at” a Unabomber script, but said no formal agreements have been made.
But the big question is: Would Brad get scruffy for a role as Kaczynski?
“He doesn’t star in everything they produce,” Gaugenti noted.
Pitt has several upcoming projects, including “The Curious Case of Benjamin Button” with Cate Blanchett, “Burn After Reading” alongside pal George Clooney and opposite Mark Wahlberg in “The Fighter.”
Sean Penn and Heath Ledger are in talks to star in “Tree of Life,” a complex drama from writer-director Terrence Malick, according to The Hollywood Reporter.
Ledger would play the male lead, while Penn would take on a supporting role. The film’s female lead has yet to be cast.
The project would reunite Penn with Malick for the first time since the two worked together on the war drama “The Thin Red Line.”
Ledger will next be seen on the big screen as The Joker in “The Dark Knight,” the next installment in the Batman franchise.
Winona Ryder, Julianne Moore and Robin Wright Penn have joined the cast of “The Private Lives of Pippa Lee,” per The Hollywood Reporter.
The dramedy, which is being co-produced by the aforementioned Plan B, follows a devoted wife whose husband falls for a younger woman, which eventually leads to a “very quiet nervous breakdown” for the wife.
Filming is slated to being in April in Connecticut.
Jason Statham will reprise his role of hitman Chev Chelios in “Crank 2: High Voltage,” per The Hollywood Reporter.
In the sequel to the 2006 action-packed surprise hit, Chev squares off against a Chinese mobster who steals his high-powered heart and replaces it with a battery-powered ticker that requires regular jolts of electricity to keep working.
Statham’s other film credits include “The Transporter,” “Snatch” and “The Italian Job.”
Ving Rhames will step into the ring to play boxing legend Sonny Liston in the biopic “Phantom Punch,” according to The Hollywood Reporter.
Robert Townsend will direct the film, which chronicles Liston’s rise to fame as a boxer and the infamous “phantom punch” he took in 1965 from Muhammad Ali (at the time known as Cassius Clay), which many believe led to the downfall of Liston’s career.
The 24th out of 25 kids born to an Arkansas sharecropper, Liston was long prone to violence and at one point served time in prison for a gas station robbery . He also was incarcerated for beating up a police officer. Liston eventually turned to fighting as a way to gain respect and became the heavyweight champion of the world in 1962.
Rumored to have ties to the mob, Liston is most remembered for his now infamous fight with Ali where two minutes into the fight, Liston (known as a tough man to knock down) was knocked off his feet by that “phatom punch,” which to this day, is still heavily debated .
