Jennifer Garner takes her act to Broadway. Janeane Garofalo is ready to tickle “24’s” funny bone. Plus, Penelope Cruz and Javier Bardem add up “Nine.” It’s all in today’s Access Hollywood Casting Call…
BROADWAY: Jennifer Garner has already made her mark on the big screen and small screen. Now, she’s trying her hand at live theater.
Garner will star opposite Kevin Kline in the Broadway revival of “Cyrano de Bergerac,” reports Variety.
The former “Alias” star will play Roxane to Kline’s Cyrano in Edmond Rostand’s 1897 classic tale of the hopeless romantic with the Pinocchio-esque feature.
Daniel Sunjata (“Take Me Out”) co-stars as the dumb-but-hot object of Roxane’s affection.
While this will be her first starring Broadway role, Garner understudied two roles for the 1995 Broadway revival of “A Month in the Country.”
Kline has been a regular on the Gotham stage in the last couple of years (“King Lear,” “Mother Courage and Her Children,” both at the Public), although “Cyrano” will be his first commercial Broadway production since “On the Twentieth Century” in 1978.
“Cyrano” is scheduled to open on November 1 and will end December 23.
FILM: Penelope Cruz and Javier Bardem are in talks to join the musical “Nine,” with producers also pursuing Catherine Zeta-Jones and Sophia Loren, according to Variety.
Bardem would play director Guido Contini, who goes through a creative and personal crisis as he tries to juggle the women in his life – including his wife, mistress, his film star muse, his agent and even his mother.
Cruz is in talks to play Carla, Contini’s mistress.
Zeta-Jones is being courted to play the muse and Loren would play his mother, who appears as a ghost.
Raul Julia originally played the role of Guido Contini onstage, with Antonio Banderas stepping into the role in the revival.
The musical was originally inspired by the Fellini film “8 ˝.”
Meanwhile, Cruz and Bardem have also teamed up for the latest Woody Allen project, currently filming in Spain.
TV: Janeane Garofalo is joining the cast of the FOX drama “24,” according to TVGuide.com.
The comedienne will step into a regular role as a government agent who is part of a team investigating the crisis Jack Bauer and team are dealing with in the upcoming season.
Garofalo’s most recent notable TV role was a 15-episode arc on NBC’s “The West Wing” in 2005, where she played Louise Thornton.
