Casting Call: Julia Roberts Ready To Spy On Clive Owen

Julia Roberts will reteam with her “Closer” co-star Clive Owen for the drama “Duplicity,” reports Variety.
Set in the world of big business, the caper follows two longtime lovers (Roberts & Owen) who happen to work as spies on opposite sides. However, they join forces on an elaborate con to steal a valuable product.
“Duplicity” is written and directed by Tony Gilroy, whose other writing credits include “Michael Clayton” and the three “Bourne” films starring Matt Damon.
Production on the film is slated to being in March.
Roberts will next be seen on the big screen opposite Tom Hanks in “Charlie Wilson’s War ,” out on December 25.
Meryl Streep is in talks to play legendary culinary queen Julia Child in Columbia’s kitchen project “Julie & Julia,” reports Variety.
Amy Adams is also in talks to join the film as a frustrated temp secretary who embarks on a yearlong quest to cook all 524 recipes in Child’s “Mastering the Art of French Cooking.”
Along the way, she chronicles her trials and tribulations in a blog that catches on with the foodies.
Streep stars alongside Tom Cruise in the political drama “Lions for Lambs,” which hits theaters November 9.
Up next for Adams is “Enchanted” alongside Patrick Dempsey (in theaters November 21) and the aforementioned “Charlie Wilson’s War” with Roberts and Hanks.
Streep will appear next summer in the big screen adaptation of “Mamma Mia!”
Heath Ledger has signed on to star in “The Imaginarium of Doctor Parnassus,” per Variety.
“Doctor” will reteam Ledger with his “The Brothers Grimm” director Terry Gilliam.
The modern-day fantasy film follows Dr. Parnassus (Christopher Plummer), who has the gift of guiding the imagination of others. With his traveling theater troupe, Parnassus offers audience members the chance to transcend reality by passing through a magical mirror.
Filming is scheduled to being in December in London and then move to Vancouver.
Next up for Ledger is the role of The Joker in “The Dark Knight,” the latest installment in the Batman franchise, which hits theaters summer of 2008.
Katie Holmes is in talks to join Giovanni Ribisi, Jason Lee and Woody Harrelson in the fantasy adventure “The Other Side,” per The Hollywood Reporter.
Story follows a female grad student who discovers a strange world of characters hiding a dark secret while she is spending a summer on a remote island studying fish.
Ribisi will play the student’s romantic interest, while both Lee and Harrelson will take on multiple roles in the film.
Production is set to being in Nova Scotia in January.
Holmes was last seen on the big screen in 2005’s “Thank You For Smoking.” Her next confirmed project is “Mad Money,” a comedy crime caper starring Diane Keaton and Queen Latifah.
Jonathan Rhys Meyers will try his hand as the hero in the lead role of “Mandrake,” according to The Hollywood Reporter.
Described as an updated take on the classic Hearst comic book, the title character is an extreme escape artist caught up in international espionage.
The film is scheduled to shoot early next year in China and the U.S. No other casting details were available.
Rhys Meyers’ film credits include “August Rush,” “Mission: Impossible III” and “Alexander.” He’s also known for his role as King Henry VIII in Showtime’s “The Tudors” and playing a young Elvis Presley in the 2005 CBS biopic “Elvis.”
