Sexy star couple — and proud new parents — Penelope Cruz and Javier Bardem have both lined up some new work. Is Sofia Vergara bringing a “Modern” twist to “The Three Stooges”? Plus, has Universal’s Snow White finally found her leading man?
It’s all in the latest edition of the AccessHollywood.com Casting Call…
Javier Bardem is in final talks to star in “The Dark Tower” film franchise, the on-screen adaptation of Stephen King’s seven-novel series, according to Deadline.
The Oscar winner will play the lead role of gunslinger Roland Deschain in the series, directed by Ron Howard, which will reportedly be spread out over three films.
Production on the first installment of the sci fi/western/fantasy story is slated to begin in September, with a May 2013 release date in mind.
Bardem most recently starred in the 2010 Spanish foreign drama “Biutiful,” for which he earned a Best Actor Oscar nod.
His other upcoming projects include the hitman heist caper “Cogan’s Trade,” co-starring Brad Pitt; an as-of-yet untitled Terrence Malick-directed romantic drama alongside Rachel McAdams, Rachel Weisz and Ben Affleck; and Bardem has been mentioned as a possible co-star in the upcoming 23rd James Bond film, starring Daniel Craig.
While Bardem goes off in search of “The Dark Tower,” wife Penelope Cruz will be reuniting with another famous Hollywood face – Woody Allen.
Penelope, who was an Academy Award winner for her role in Allen’s 2008 “Vicky Cristina Barcelona” (alongside Bardem), is re-teaming with the iconic director for a new project, reports Entertainment Weekly.
“I know [what I’m doing next], but the thing is that I have to ask the director what I can say and what I cannot say,” the actress told the mag. “Because he’s very secretive. It’s…it’s a movie with Woody Allen. But I really cannot say anything about the story or the characters.”
Allen has previously announced he was planning on shooting his next project in Rome, which is believed to be this new Cruz-starring feature.
The news of the new gig comes just a few months after Cruz and Bardem welcomed their first child – a son – back in January.
Cruz will next be seen on the big screen opposite Johnny Depp in “Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides,” which is due out on May 20.
As the cast of 20th Century Fox’s “The Three Stooges” awaits the arrival of their Moe, the pic appears to have found its leading lady.
“Modern Family” beauty Sofia Vergara is in talks to take on the film’s femme fatale role, according to The Hollywood Reporter.
As previously reported on AccessHollywood.com, Sean Hayes will play Larry, while Will Sasso will step into the role of Curly.
No casting for the third and final “Stooge,” Moe, has been announced yet, although Hank Azaria has been mentioned as a possible candidate.
AH NATION POLL: Who Do You Think Should Play Moe?
Aside from her work as Gloria on the hit ABC sitcom, Sofia’s big screen credits include roles in a pair of Tyler Perry movies – 2009’s “Madea Goes to Jail” and 2008’s “Meet the Browns,” as well as roles in “Four Brothers,” “Lords of Dogtown” and “Soul Plane.”
She’ll next appear in the live-action/animated film “The Smurfs,” as well as be a part of the ensemble cast of Garry Marshall’s upcoming “New Year’s Eve.”
Is Hugh Jackman about to go on the hunt for the Fairest of Them All?
The “Wolverine” star has been offered the role of the huntsman in Universal’s “Snow White and The Huntsman,” according to Deadline.
The film – one of two competing Snow White projects – stars Kristen Stewart as Snow White and Charlize Theron as the evil queen.
Viggo Mortensen had reportedly been eyed to play the part, but talks reportedly broke down in late March.
As for Jackman, he recently received word that his “X-Men” stand alone project, “The Wolverine,” was losing its director.
In March, Darren Aronofsky announced that he was leaving the director’s chair of “The Wolverine” because the film’s extensive shooting schedule in Japan would have prevented Aronofsky from being with his family.
However, the Aussie actor does have a handful of movies already completed and awaiting release, including futuristic boxing story “Real Steel,” off-beat comedy “Butter” with Jennifer Garner and the sketch comedy film “Movie 43.”
