AccessHollywood.com reported on July 2 that he’d be the one, and now CBS says it’s confirmed that Neil Patrick Harris will host “The 61st Primetime Emmys,” airing September 20.
“I’m looking forward to the challenge of the show—adding my own voice to it, while honoring the nominees and the entire year in television,” Harris said.
“But which voice to choose? I’m torn between gangsta, foppish Brit, and robot. Really proud of my robot. We’ll see what happens on the night.”
Harris stars in the CBS comedy “How I Met Your Mother.”
He won critical acclaim earlier this year as host of CBS’ Tony Awards broadcast. He hosted the TV Land Awards earlier this spring.
Last year’s Emmys were widely criticized for the lackluster results stemming from the decision to rotate the hosting position between five reality hosts, all nominated in the Best Host for a Reality or Reality Competition Show category — Tom Bergeron, Jeff Probst, Howie Mandel, Heidi Klum and Ryan Seacrest.
Neil recently booked two new feature films – the indie ensemble “The Best and the Brightest” (co-starring Bonnie Somerville and Amy Sedaris, which he is currently shooting in Philadelphia) and a supporting role in CBS Films’ “Beastly” (co-starring Vanessa Hudgens and Mary-Kate Olsen).
