The strong premiere of ABC’s science fiction series “V’’ caps an unusually strong development season for the network.
Opening week of the Earth-invaders series was seen by 14.3 million viewers, the Nielsen Co. said. That was the second-best new series debut for the season behind the CBS spinoff “NCIS: Los Angeles,” and it was the most-watched scripted show of the week among the youthful demographic ABC covets.

A lawyer for the TV news producer accused of blackmailing David Letterman plans to ask a judge to dismiss an extortion case that prompted the late-night comic to acknowledge affairs with staffers.
Robert J. “Joe” Halderman is due in a Manhattan court Tuesday. His defense attorney, Gerald Shargel, said he planned to challenge whether the evidence presented to a grand jury was sufficient and ask a judge to dismiss the attempted first-degree grand larceny charge against his client.

Adam Jasinski, of Delray Beach, Fla., is charged with attempting to sell 2,000 oxycodone pills. He is scheduled to appear in U.S. District Court in Boston Friday.

Sarah Palin and Levi Johnston’s war of words continued on Thursday after the future Playgirl model claimed that the former Governor refered to her infant son as “retarded.”
During an interview on CBS’ “The Early Show” on Wednesday, Levi claimed that he heard Palin refer to son Trig, who has Down syndrome, as “retarded.”
