David Beckham is a one-man phenomenon. No modern footballer has created such intense interest and fan loyalty, while at the same time tearing up the tabloids with their every move.
Handsome, charming and loaded with talent, David is the perfect front man to pump up worldwide football (”soccer,” to us Americans) hysteria. Add in his high-profile marriage to the woman formerly known as Victoria Adams (now better known as Posh Spice, of the Spice Girls), and you have the makings of an international superstar celebrity couple.
It doesn’t hurt that Beckham is hugely talented either. His successful career started in 1992 with Manchester United in his native United Kingdom, switched to Real Madrid in 2003 and, most recently, to the Los Angeles Galaxy in 2007. He is respected by teammates and opponents alike for his uncanny ability to “see” the entire field and capitalize on split second openings with successful accuracy.
