Ben Affleck is visiting refugee camps in war-torn eastern Congo, where at least 250,000 people have been displaced by recent fighting, and says more aid money is needed.
The actor has visited the Central African country four times since 2007 and also has made a documentary about its problems.
Years of sporadic violence in eastern Congo intensified in August, when fighting heated up between the army and fighters loyal to rebel leader Laurent Nkunda.

Weeks after the passing of Oscar winner and humanitarian, Paul Newman, Hollywood’s elite took to the stage to honor and raise funds for one of the late star’s charities.
Julia Roberts, Jack Nicholson, Tom Hanks, Bruce Willis, Sean Penn, Warren Beatty and Casey Affleck were among the A-listers who hit the stage at San Francisco’s Davies Symphony Hall on Monday evening, performing a reading of “The World of Nick Adams,” to benefit The Painted Turtle, a medical specialty camp in California, which helps provide hope and joy for children with life threatening illnesses. And, according to Danny Glover, who also joined the cast, though the night was for the children, it was also in celebration of their late friend.

BEVERLY HILLS, Calif.
Some of Hollywood’s biggest stars turned out Tuesday night for a benefit in the fight against California’s Proposition 8 – which, if passed, would alter the state’s constitution to define marriage as only between a man and a woman. They raised almost 4 million dollars in the fight for marriage equality, the Advocate reported.
The event was hosted at Ron Burkle’s Green Acres Estate in Beverly Hills and included headline performers, Mary J. Blige and Melissa Etheridge.
