ARLINGTON, Texas -- Christina Aguilera has been tapped for a seriously “Super” gig.
The “Burlesque” beauty will sing the national anthem prior to Super Bowl XLV, the NFL announced on Monday.
The big game – between the Pittsburgh Steelers and the Green Bay Packers – will be played on February 6 in Arlington, Texas (just outside of Dallas). FOX will televise the event.
“I have been performing the Anthem since I was seven years old and I must say the Super Bowl is a dream come true,” Christina said in a statement released by the NFL. “I am really excited to be part of such an iconic event.”
It marks the second Super Bowl performance for the singer, who previously performed during halftime of Super Bowl XXXIV in Atlanta in 2000.
The selection of Christina breaks a string of three consecutive years in which “American Idol” alums – Carrie Underwood, Jennifer Hudson and Jordin Sparks – have respectively had the honor to perform the national anthem.
Other notable names that have recently sung the song before the game include Billy Joel, Beyonce, the Dixie Chicks, Mariah Carey and Faith Hill.
As previously reported, The Black Eyed Peas will perform at halftime of this year’s game.
