LOS ANGELES, Calif. --

George Clooney celebrated Barack Obama’s election as the 44th President of the United States with joy and a look towards the road ahead.

“I congratulate President-elect Obama on his historic victory,” George said in a statement released to Access Hollywood.

Clooney, a longtime Obama supporter, urged a divided America to unite in order to overcome our national challenges.

“And now it’s time to begin unifying the country so we can take on the extraordinary challenges that this generation faces, " he continued in the statement.

As previously reported on Access, back in August, the actor debunked reports that he was acting as an advisor to Obama.

“I have never texted or emailed Senator Obama,” Clooney said in a statement to Access Hollywood in August. “And I’ll offer a million dollars to anyone who could prove otherwise.”
