Columbus Short Not Returning To 'Scandal'
Columbus Short will not return to “Scandal.”
The actor, who was playing Harrison Wright on the ABC series, released a statement through his rep, confirming he will not be back on the show.
“At this time I must confirm my exit from a show I’ve called home for 3 years, with what is the most talented ensemble on television today. I would like to first thank [creator] Shonda Rhimes for the opportunity to work with such an amazing cast. Thank you GLADIATORS, who have supported me throughout my entire career and of course to ABC and Shondaland for allowing me to play such a pivotal role in the ‘Scandal’ series,” Short’s statement read. “I have enjoyed every single minute of it. Everything must come to an end and unfortunately the time has come for Harrison Wright to exit the canvas. I wish nothing but the best for Shonda, Kerry and the rest of the cast, who have become like a second family to me in such a short amount of time. For this, I will forever be grateful.”
A source close to the show told Access Hollywood that Short’s option was not picked up.
In the show’s finale, Olivia Pope’s father, Rowan, had a gun pointed at Harrison’s head. It is not known how the exit of Short’s character will be structured.
Short, himself, was the subject of headlines in recent months. He was charged with felony battery, after authorities claimed he hit a man, in March. The actor’s wife filed for divorce earlier this month.
At a Season 3 viewing party for his ABC drama last week, Short said his cast had helped him out in tough times.
“They’ve been my family. They’ve been my keepers,” Columbus, previously told Access Hollywood. “I am their brother and they are my keepers.”
