LOS ANGELES, Calif. --

Nick Zano has been clocking up the hours as Courteney Cox’s boy toy on ABC’s “Cougar Town,” but he may be making the leap to “Melrose Place.”

A source close to The CW production told Access Hollywood the former “What I Like About You” actor is in talks to join the reboot of the primetime soap.

According to Entertainment Weekly’s Michael Ausiello, who first reported the news, Nick could serve as a potential replacement for Colin Egglesfield’s character, Auggie, who is being written out of the show.

If the talks go through, Nick is likely to play a doctor on “Melrose Place,” one who crosses paths with Thomas Calabro’s character, Dr. Michael Mancini, and Stephanie Jacobsen’s character, Lauren Yung.

“He will move into the building,” Executive Producer Todd Slavkin told Ausiello. “He doesn’t take life very seriously. Medicine can be fun as well as serious to him, and he ends up lightening up Lauren.”
