A federal appeals court says Anna Nicole Smith’s estate will receive none of the more than $300 million that she claimed her late billionaire husband had promised her.
The 9th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals is the latest stop in the 15-year legal battle over the $1.6 billion estate that oil magnate J. Howard Marshall left after his 1995 death at age 90.

Talk show host Oprah Winfrey must defend a defamation suit over remarks she made about a headmistress at her girls’ school in South Africa after a sex-abuse scandal erupted there, a U.S. judge ruled.
The case is now set for trial on March 29 in Philadelphia.
Judge Eduardo Robreno refused to dismiss the suit in a decision Monday, ruling that former headmistress Nomvuyo Mzamane has enough evidence to pursue her defamation claims against the media mogul. Winfrey made the remarks in 2007 after the complaints surfaced at the $40 million Oprah Winfrey Leadership Academy for Girls, near Johannesburg.

A judge approved a multimillion-dollar legal settlement Tuesday involving the wife and young son of former Blink 182 drummer Travis Barker’s assistant, who was killed in a 2008 plane crash in South Carolina.
The settlement with Learjet Inc., Goodyear Tire & Rubber Co. and other companies involved in the ownership, operation and making of the jet will pay for college for Chris Baker’s 3-year-old son and establish an annuity giving him more than $17 million over his lifetime.

Charlie Sheen has pleaded not guilty to three charges stemming from his Christmas Day alleged altercation with wife Brooke Mueller.
In court on Monday afternoon in Aspen, Colo., the “Two and a Half Men” star pleaded not guilty to felony menacing, misdemeanor third degree assault and misdemeanor criminal mischief.

The man convicted of stalking ESPN reporter Erin Andrews and shooting nude videos of her through a hotel room peephole facing sentencing in a Los Angeles courtroom.
Michael Barrett, a 48-year-old Chicago-area insurance executive, has pleaded guilty to interstate stalking and agreed to a 27-month prison sentence. Barrett is suspected of renting hotel rooms adjacent to Andrews in three cities in 2008, including Milwaukee.

A former “One Life to Live” star has admitted resisting arrest in a plea deal that resolves charges stemming from a fight at a New York City gas station.
Nathaniel Marston pleaded guilty Thursday to the misdemeanor charge. He has completed an anger-management program, and his case is expected to be closed without jail time or probation.
