Covert Affairs: Piper Perabo, Christopher Gorham & Hill Harper Talk Season 4
Piper Perabo said things are going to get even more complicated for her CIA agent character, Annie Walker, when “Covert Affairs” returns this Tuesday on USA.
“Annie starts risking her life for her job… this season,” Piper said last month when USA flew several outlets, including AccessHollywood.com, up to the show’s Toronto set, where they made us their guests.
“I think this season, she is really evaluating that choice,” Piper added. “When it gets down to your life [it’s not about], is somebody gonna shoot you, but having a life and having this job and are you willing to sacrifice having a life to be good at this job.”
Annie’s new mindset may have something to do with how she ended Season 3 in the romance department – she and Auggie Anderson (Christopher Gorham) had finally taken that romantic leap.
But, a quick twist almost immediately takes the couple to Colombia where they meet fellow CIA agent Calder Michaels (Hill Harper), a character that spices things up.
“He’s ambitious,” Hill said of Calder, who is the youngest station chief in South America in 20 years.
To achieve a position so early on in life certainly puts Calder in some gray area from the start.
“The question is, is he someone who’s just really damn good, very committed and wants to do the right thing and is really great at that? Or, is [he] somebody that maybe has benefited from a few shortcuts because he’s willing to do things that other people aren’t willing to do?” Hill said.
Christopher said Calder, in turn, will question Annie and Auggie.
“The nice thing about Hill’s character too is that he doesn’t know if he can trust us,” Christopher said. “And I think that’s a really nice dynamic ‘cause when he comes in, not only does the audience not know if this guy is a good or a bad guy, from the beginning, he doesn’t know if Annie and Auggie are good or bad guys right from the beginning.”
Colombian actor Manolo Cardona is also new to the fold this season. He’ll make his first appearance in the show’s season premiere as a character named Teo.
“He’s a tough guy,” Manolo said of his character, not willing to reveal much more before the season premiere. “He’s had a tough life.”
“Covert Affairs” returns on Tuesday, July 16 at 9/8c on USA.
