Dan Harmon Reacts To Getting Booted From Community: 'I Got Fired'

“Community” creator Dan Harmon will not return as showrunner for the show’s upcoming fourth season.

Harmon has been replaced by “Happy Endings” scribes Moses Port and David Guarascio, after Sony Pictures Television opted not to renew Harmon’s contract.

The writer/producer — who had publicly feuded with series star Chevy Chase in recent weeks — addressed the situation late Friday night in a post on his personal blog, writing, “I got fired.”

“Why’d Sony want me gone? I can’t answer that because I’ve been in as much contact with them as you have. They literally haven’t called me since the season four pickup, so their reasons for replacing me are clearly none of my business,” Harmon wrote in the post titled, “Hey, Did I Miss Anything?” on Friday. “’Community’ is their property, I only own ten percent of it, and I kind of don’t want to hear what their complaints are because I’m sure it would hurt my feelings even more now that I’d be listening for free.”

The “Community” creator also shot down a statement by NBC’s Bob Greenblatt, who recently said Harmon would still be involved in “Community,” perhaps on a “consulting” basis.

“That’s a misquote,” Harmon wrote of Greenblatt’s statement, which was made during a conference call with reporters regarding the network’s fall lineup. “I think he meant to say he’s sure cookies are yummy, because he’s never called me once in the entire duration of his employment at NBC.

“You may have read that I am technically ‘signed on,’ by default, to be an executive consulting something or other — which is a relatively standard protective clause for a creator in my position,” he added. “Guys like me can’t actually just be shot and left in a ditch by Skynet. We’re still allowed to have a title on the things we create and ‘help out,’ like, I guess sharpening pencils and stuff.”

“Community,” starring Joel McHale, Gillian Jacobs, Chevy Chase, Alison Brie, Danny Pudi, Yvette Nicole Brown and Donald Glover, will return in the fall on Fridays at 8:30 PM on NBC.
