Dan Harmon Returning As Community Showrunner

“Community” fans, rejoice!

Dan Harmon, creator of the NBC cult comedy and original showrunner, is set to return for the show’s upcoming fifth season.

Following weeks of rumors surrounding a possible reunion with his beloved series, one of Harmon’s Twitter followers demanded that he “give us a straight answer!”

“Yes yes yes! I’m back I’m back I’m back,” he replied via a Tweet on Saturday. “You can thank [series star] Joel McHale.”

The news was quickly re-Tweeted by nearly 5,000 Twitter users, including “Community” star Gillian Jacobs, who added, “Welcome back, @danharmon! E Pluribus Anus!”

Series star Jim Rash also Tweeted his excitement over Harmon’s return, writing, “Over the Greendale PA system and/or entering in a costume… Nice 2 dean u back, @danharmon!”

Despite Harmon’s Tweet, a source for TheWrap reported that the deal to bring Harmon back has not yet been finalized.

As previously reported on AccessHollywood.com, in May 2012, Sony Pictures Television opted not to renew Harmon’s “Community” contract and replaced him with Moses Port and David Guarascio.

Harmon, who had publicly feuded with former series star Chevy Chase in weeks leading up to the cut — addressed the situation in a post on his personal blog at the time, writing, “I got fired.”

“Why’d Sony want me gone? I can’t answer that because I’ve been in as much contact with them as you have. They literally haven’t called me since the season four pickup, so their reasons for replacing me are clearly none of my business,” Harmon wrote in the post titled, “Hey, Did I Miss Anything?” at the time. “’Community’ is their property, I only own ten percent of it, and I kind of don’t want to hear what their complaints are because I’m sure it would hurt my feelings even more now that I’d be listening for free.”
