10. ‘True Romance’: Love Is Pain — The second film written by Tarantino, the romantic crime thriller stars Clarence the conman (Christian Slater) and Alabama the call girl (Patricia Arquette) who plan to get rich from stolen cocaine. Things get rocky when the original owners —the mafia— are on to the criminal couple. Mobsters, cops, and agents unite in the final climactic scene, barging into the crew’s hotel room. It’s a Tarantino standoff at its finest. A gun is shot, sending the scene into a full-blown shootout, the cops killing everyone in sight. Alabama lives and almost loses her true love, Clarence, to a shot through the eye. He survives and, alas, the romance continues.
