LOS ANGELES, Calif. --
Lindsay Lohan’s father, Michael Lohan, claims prescription drugs have turned his daughter into someone he barely recognizes and he told Access Hollywood his mission is to get her off medication.
“At first it was the partying and the lifestyle she was living,” Michael told Access Hollywood on Tuesday. “But now…I have a real problem with these addiction specialists and doctors who come along after all these years, and when she’s 17-years-old or 18-years-old they say, ‘You need prescription medication for your A.D.D.,’ when the root of the problem is much deeper than that.”
When asked which meds he was claiming that his daughter was using, Michael remained mum.
“I can’t get into what the medications are,” he said.
Access pressed, asking if he thought his 23-year-old daughter was addicted to the unnamed meds.
“Well, I think once you’re on the prescription medication long enough, medically you become addicted to it,” he said. “Sometimes it [is] harder to withdrawal or get off the medication than it is [to get off of] illegal drugs.”
When asked if Lindsay was doing other drugs, he was quick to shoot down that notion.
“No, not at all, I don’t believe so,” he explained. “I’ve spent time with her, I know her. I think she’s very open and honest with me about what she does and doesn’t do.”
According to Michael, prescription meds can cause someone to “become a shell, you’re blank, you’re vacant inside…you’re not the same person.”
Michael told Access he sees the alleged toll that these meds have taken on his daughter physically.
“When I was with her in LA, sitting in the hotel room, I looked at her and when I left I just started crying and bawling my eyes out,” he said. “That’s not the girl I raised. My daughter’s going to bury me, I’m not going bury her and I’m not going to let this happen to her anymore. I want to get her in a place where she’s going to get off all the prescription medication, everything!”
When asked if he would consider placing Lindsay under a conservatorship, like Britney Spears, he said it would be considered if it could solve the alleged problem.
“I’ll do whatever I have to do. She may hate me now but in the end she’s going to love, [because] she’s going to have her life back,” he continued. “I’ve seen pictures of her partying with Akon and other people over in Paris, and I don’t think she’s herself and I think people take advantage of people when they’re not themselves. And I’m not going to sit back wait anymore, I can’t watch her do this.”
According to Michael, Lindsay has not been responsive when he previously tried to reach to her about the alleged problem.
“No, she doesn’t want to talk to me about it,” he claimed. “She shuts me down.”
He did reveal that he has an ally in ex-wife Dina Lohan.
“To me Dina is [onboard,] but when it comes to doing something about it, we’ll see if she is or isn’t,” he said. “Dina and I are actually on good terms. But when it comes to being parents, I don’t care what my kids think when it comes to me doing what it is I have to do as a father.”
As for Lindsay, she recently told Access Hollywood that she doesn’t “deal” with her father any more.
“What my dad does is none of my business,” she told Access last month when asked about her father spending time with Jon Gosselin. “I’ve seen enough of it in the past and I no longer want to deal with any of that.”
In other Lohan news, Michael is also going after celebrity blogger Perez Hilton with a cease and desist letter for what Michael is calling, “pornographic and obscene material” on his popular celebrity Web site.
“I’m asking him now to stop!” Michael said during a press conference on Tuesday morning, referring to Perez’s use of irreverent drawings on pictures of celebrities that he is known to post. “If he doesn’t stop, we’re going to proceed with other legal action. I’m asking to cease and desist right now and to take those pictures down and to not do it again… If he doesn’t cease and desist, I then I will go ahead legally and sue him for what he’s doing.”
Michael said money was not behind his legal attack on Perez.
“This is about what he is doing, I don’t want any money from this…If any money is gained in a lawsuit, it’s all going to charity, this is not about money,” he explained.
As for why now, Michael said a recent picture of Lindsay sent him over the edge.
“When he put the cocaine on Lindsay’s nose yesterday…that was the line that he crossed that I just can’t handle any more. My daughter is not on cocaine! She’s doesn’t use cocaine!” he told reporters. “There may be other issues involving with prescription drugs, which I’m very opposed to myself…I’m tired of him lying and twisting and misleading people.”
