DJ Accuses Leona Lewis of Stealing Music
Leona Lewis has been wrapped up in an ongoing Twitter battle with a Swedish DJ after claims she allegedly stole a music sample from him.
The DJ, Avicii, accused Lewis of stealing part of his hit song “Penguin,” and using it in her new song “Collide,” without permission. But Lewis, who shot to fame on the heels of her smash breakout single “Bleeding Love” after winning the UK’s “The X Factor,” claims that they had reached a deal together allowing her to use the sample.
“With regards to my song, avicii was aware & agreeing publishing splits for himself and his manager,” Leona posted on her Twitter page on Tuesday. “When avicii sent his track out to have a song written over it I totally fell in love with this version and i think he’s super talented.”
But Avicii thinks otherwise.
He took to his Twitter account saying, “@leonalewismusic Thanks for accusing me of lying and speaking on my behalf… Since we never met or even spoke, please let me and my manager know who told you that and what confirmation they gave you.”
Fans of the DJ have shown support for Avicii through Facebook, with groups called “Team Avicii (vs. Leona Lewis case)” and “Leona Lewis should fade into darkness for ripping off Avicii.”
Lewis has since ignored the attacks, Tweeting to her fans on Wednesday, “Hope your all having a good day! So excited about the next few weeks, lots to do, love and hugs always xxx.”
