LOS ANGELES, Calif. --
Zac Efron has been looking to shake up his film roles – and at last night’s Los Angeles premiere of “17 Again,” he told Access Hollywood that one of them might be the title character in “Jonny Quest.”
“It has the potential to happen,” he told Access on Thursday.
The film, in development at Warner Bros., is set to adapt the classic Hanna-Barbera cartoon, which followed the adventures of 11-year-old Jonny and his friends as they took on sci-fi and action hijinks.
The role could be a stretch for Zac in one major way – Johnny is known for his mop of blond hair, a far cry from Zac’s famous brown locks.
Were he to join the film, he might not be the only one on set with dyed hair. Dwayne Johnson, who has been circling the role of Jonny’s white-haired bodyguard, Race Bannon, told AccessHollywood.com’s Dish of Salt, Laura Saltman, in March that he’d be willing to change his coif for the part.
“I think it would be cool,” Dwayne said at the junket for “Race to Witch Mountain.” “I have a big head so that might be a lot of white!”
“They are writing it right now,” he added, noting that he hadn’t yet signed on for the film.
And Zac also told Access on Thursday that it’s too early to start calling him Jonny.
“It’s so early on,” he said. “Too much attention gets put on projects that are just meetings and stuff.”
“17 Again,” which co-stars Matthew Perry and Leslie Mann, opens on Friday.
