Eva Longoria is more than just number one on Maxim magazine’s “Hot 100” list.

She also is a wonderfully charitable woman who worked hard to get where she is.

And as Access’ Billy Bush found out, for a lot of kids, Eva’s their number one new best friend.

Eva’s home away from home — Los Angeles Children’s Hospital — is a place where families with children fighting cancer are used to seeing the “Desperate Housewives” actress.

“Did you meet Billy?” Eva asked the kids. “Billy, you are so cute! Tell him what my name is! What’s my name?”

“Evan Longloria,” a little girl named Annie announced.

“Evan Longloria,” Eva cracked up.

Thanks to Eva’s kind invitation, Billy got to meet a wonderful bunch of kids. Eva is the national spokeswoman for “Padres Contra El Cancer,” an organization that improves the lives of Latino children with cancer by breaking down language barriers and getting the kids regular check-ups.

“Annie, how are you feeling?” Eva asked her friend.

“Fine,” Annie said.

“You know, just for a lack of a check-up should not be the reason why a child dies,” Eva told Billy. “When “Desperate Housewives” exploded we really said, why don’t we do a national campaign?”

“You know when I first got here, I immediately started to feel very, you know, angst, a little sad,” Billy said. “I don’t understand how this happens. And I come in and there is so much hope, the colors are so bright, and there is so much love and happiness going on in here and then you realize, yeah man, it’s working. Have they ever had to turn a family away?”

“Never, no and it’s all inclusive, even though Padre is to help Latino families,” Eva explained. “They take all races and all families.”

On this particular day, Eva posed for photographs for a public service announcement, set to air during the ALMA Awards on June 5.

As producer and host of the ALMA’s, Eva selflessly gave up her paycheck, so, she could air the “Padres” public service announcement to a national audience.“That is how I am getting paid,” Eva said. “This is how I am getting paid. It’s for these kids to just have a opportunity to show their story.”

“This makes it all worth it,” Eva said. “This is really why we do what we do.”
