LOS ANGELES, Calif. --

She’s an actress, a Calvin Klein perfume and underwear model, and famous from California to Calcutta, but there’s one party Eva Mendes’ celebrity status can’t get her into – President-elect Barack Obama’s inauguration.

“Hottest ticket party in town… I thought I had some pull – I usually do, and I’ve been shut down,” Eva sighed. “It’s the hardest party to get into.”

And Eva’s “The Spirit” co-star, Gabriel Macht, despite playing the movie’s title character, is having trouble too.

“I’ve had my people speak to Barack’s people and…” Gabriel started.

“And he’s not going either,” Eva laughed.

Though so far the two haven’t been successful, they’ve vowed not to give up.

“We are still working on it, but I understand the whole thing,” Eva said. “They don’t want to make [it] a celebrity studded event because I understand this in an extremely crucial time in our history and in our world right now. And I understand not wanting to make [it] a star-studded event; I completely understand that. But of course, I would love to go and be there.”
