TAMPA, Florida --
The Super Bowl organizers got it right when they tapped Jennifer Hudson to perform the National Anthem, according to Faith Hill.
“She is a strong girl and a girl of faith and to come perform the National Anthem… at a time when our country is stepping up and moving forward for future generations, I think it’s the perfect choice,” the country singer told AccessHollywood.com on Thursday during a Super Bowl performers press conference in Tampa.
Hudson’s performance before the game on Sunday will mark the first time the former “American Idol” has performed in public since her mother, brother and nephew were murdered in October.
“She’s going to be embraced. She’s going to feel love like she has probably never imagined,” Faith told Access Hollywood’s Maria Menounos in an interview following the press conference.
Fellow Super Bowl performer John Legend echoed Hill’s sentiments that the Super Bowl was the perfect place for Hudson’s comeback performance.
“I think these kinds of things have a way of making you stronger and making you appreciate the opportunities you have more,” Legend told Maria. “So hopefully, Jennifer feels that way and she’s going to kick a** on Sunday night.”
And while Hill, who will sing “America The Beautiful” prior to the game on Sunday, said she has yet to speak with Hudson (who was not present at the press conference), she noted that Hudson and her family have certainly been on the minds of her and husband Tim McGraw.
“There has not been a day that’s gone by when she has not been in our family’s prayers,” Hill added.
In addition to looking forward to Hudson’s performance on Sunday, Super Bowl XLIII will also mark a historic occasion for Hill, as she will become the first artist to have ever performed both the National Anthem and “America The Beautiful” at the Super Bowl.
Hill performed the National Anthem prior to the 2000 Super Bowl.
