LOS ANGELES, Calif. --

Matthew McConaughey has given the world its first look at his newborn son Levi in these photos published in OK! magazine.

Levi was born to Matthew and his girlfriend, model Camila Alves, on July 7, 2008 at 6:22 PM.

“We welcome Levi Alves McConaughey into this wonderful life and look forward to living in it with him. In the mean time and all times, just keep livin,’” Matthew and Camila said in a statement following the birth.

The actor later told OK! magazine where his son’s name stemmed from.

“Levi was another name for the apostle Matthew in The Bible. They were, in fact, two names for the same person,” Matthew said.

Alves became their son’s middle name in honor of Camila.

In addition to taking his name from his parents, the time of Levi’s birth was also special, McConaughey said.

“Our son was born at 6:22 PM, and this particular time represents my favorite verse in the book of Matthew in The Bible: ‘If thy eye be single, thy whole body will be full of light,’” Matthew previously told OK!

McConaughey first revealed that he and his girlfriend were expecting a baby back in January, via a post on his web site.

“My girlfriend Camila and I made a baby together,” he wrote. “It’s 3 months grown in her womb and all looks healthy and lively so far.”
