OCALA, FL --

Among the thousands of news stories that have surfaced covering the death of Jett Travolta, son to John Travolta and Kelly Preston, there has been one shiny spot in the tragic news – the overwhelming support from the couple’s hometown community.

The people of Ocala, FL, located in Marion County, have made food for the family, posted signs up across town in support of them, and shared their heartfelt sorrow with the world for the grieving family and for the loss of one of their own.

One reason the town has rallied around the family is the kindhearted nature of the Travoltas, who have made a tremendous impression in the neighborhood.

“We were all shocked and saddened,” Kathy Johnson Owner & Publisher of Ocala Style Magazine said about the community’s response to Jett’s death. “We have sort of adopted the Travoltas. We feel like they are part of our family. Because they’re hurting, we feel the same way. We hurt for them.”

Kathy said the community has already given the family its privacy, but the Travoltas will continue to know they are supported in the area as the days and months go on.

“There may be letters and things that are sent to them, but I think … [the community is] going to respect their privacy and let them grieve and mourn like they need to do,” she said. “Through the newspaper and various things that they’ll see locally, they’ll see our support and our love for them.”

Kathy said the next issue of Ocala Style will feature “something in there, showing our love and concern as a community expressed to them.”

And John, who is featured on the current cover of Ocala Style, previously told the magazine he appreciates the community.

“Everyone has been wonderful,” he previously said. “We’re well-protected and safe.”
