'Game Of Thrones': John Bradley On What's Next At The Wall
Samwell Tarly was one of the few main Westeros players who ended the third season of “Game of Thrones” with pure joy.
He had his crush – new mom Gilly (Hannah Murray) – by his side and his best friend, Jon Snow (Kit Harington), had returned to Castle Black (albeit full of arrows). But don’t expect it to be a joyous occasion for long, John Bradley, who plays Samwell, hinted to Access Hollywood.
“It’s the first time that the three people – Jon, Gilly and baby Sam — it’s the first time that they’ve ever been in close proximity to each other, so he really can’t believe his luck,” John told Access of what’s ahead for Sam in Season 4. “But, knowing Sam, and knowing his kind of self-loathing and neurosis, it’s not long before he starts to make things a little complicated for himself.”
And there are more complications from the Wildlings too. Castle Black isn’t the safest place at the minute, with the group of free folk still hoping to attack The Wall. So Access asked John how scared the men of the Night’s Watch should be as Season 4 begins.
“Oh, terrified – just in terms of the numbers, the numbers alone. Before you get into their depleted armory and all their shortcomings, they’re so underqualified and unequipped to do the job that they have to do,” John explained. “So if they’re gonna win, they’re gonna have to win against all odds really.”
And there are some new Wildlings fans will meet this season – the Thenn (Yuri Kolokolnikov was cast as their leader, the fearsome Styr).
“They’re just a whole new level of terrifying,” John said when Access asked him about the addition of the Thenn. “You think that once you’ve managed to ward off a few White Walkers that nothing else will ever scare you again, but there’s gonna be plenty of opportunity in this season for Sam to be terrified.
“You’re talking about people and there’s nothing more terrifying than loose cannon people who don’t really mind what that stakes are,” John added of the new group.
“Game of Thrones” Season 4 premieres April 6 at 9 PM ET/PT on HBO.
