“Game of Thrones” set a new record this month when it passed “The Sopranos” to become HBO’s most watched show.
At the “How To Train Your Dragon 2” junket, Kit Harington, who plays Jon Snow in the series, reacted to the news.
“I think we were getting close and so I kind of hoped it might, but not even hoped because ‘Sopranos’ was such a big show for me when I was growing up and watching it and wanting to be an actor, that the idea that we have more viewing figures than that did – [it] really blows my mind,” Kit told Access Hollywood. “It’s amazing the show has done that well.
“And I don’t’ think it’s any better or any worse than ‘Sopranos.’ It just has more viewing figures, which is nice,” Kit said.
Last week, HBO announced that “Thrones,” now in its fourth season, is seen by an average gross audience of 18.4 million viewers. Previously, “The Sopranos” had the record for most-watched HBO show, bringing in 18.2 million viewers in 2002.
Rose Leslie – Ygritte on the show – said the milestone represents the hard work of executive producers David Benioff and Dan Weiss.
“Wonderful,” Rose told Access, reacting to the news. “It’s so, so great. Oh, it’s so wonderful and that is such an accolade to David and Dan.”
“Game of Thrones” concludes its fourth season this Sunday night at 9 PM ET/PT on HBO.
