'Game Of Thrones': Sean Bean Reacts To Purple Wedding Shocker

Ned Stark’s death in “Game of Thrones” Season 1 serves as the original shocker from the HBO show, so it is only right that Sean Bean, the man who played King Joffrey’s first victim, has the last word on Joffrey’s exit.

After years of tormenting Starks, working girls, his uncle Tyrion and plenty of others, Joffrey Baratheon, first of his name, was poisoned and died a gruesome death at The Purple Wedding.

“I didn’t see it, but I heard,” Sean Bean told Access Hollywood at WonderCon on Saturday, when we asked him for his reaction to King Joffrey’s death.

“He was brilliant, that kid. He’s a fantastic actor, and he really got people’s backs up, which, I guess that’s what was required of the character,” Sean added of Jack Gleeson’s work as Joffrey. “He certainly pulled that off.

“But, what can I say? I’m glad he’s dead,” Sean laughed of the long-awaited Joffrey exit.

Sean hit WonderCon on Saturday to promote his newest project, “Legends,” from “24” and “Homeland” Executive Producer Howard Gordon. Premiering August 13 on TNT, the show follows Sean’s Martin Odum, an FBI agent who goes so deep undercover, he runs into serious trouble, especially when a fellow agent questions who he really is.

“He’s a very interesting man,” Sean said of Martin. “I guess he’s a blank canvas and that’s the way I look at it, that he kind of transforms himself into the personas, takes on other identities and [he has an] absolute total belief in that, which can be a problem sometimes… immersing himself in the part as it were, I guess, like we do as actors. But sometimes, he can’t get out of it and those kinds of personas clash on occasion.”
