It looks like ABC is not ready to totally give up on the soap opera genre. The network has renewed its one remaining soap, “General Hospital,” meaning it will be around for its 50th anniversary on April 1, 2013. The lifestyle show “The Revolution” is not so lucky. It has been cancelled and will air its final episode in July.

James Franco is scheduled to return to “General Hospital,” but exactly when appears to be up in the air.
Earlier this week, it was reported that James would return to the ABC soap on September 20. However, when Access Hollywood caught up with James at the “Rise of the Planet Apes” premiere in Hollywood on Thursday night — his return date was news to him.

Regis Philbin and ABC’s exiting soap operas have multiple opportunities to go out as winners at the Daytime Emmy Awards.
“All My Children” earned 13 Emmy nods and “One Life to Live” had 12, in nominations announced Wednesday for the June 19 awards show. ABC has canceled the durable soap operas, each on the air for more than 40 years, and their final episodes will be in the coming months.
