George Michael Released After Drug Arrest

LONDON, U.K. -- Caption George Michael looking dapperPop singer George Michael was arrested on Friday under suspicion of possession of crack cocaine and marijuana, U.K. newspaper The Telegraph reported.

The former Wham! frontman, 45, was reportedly nabbed in a bathroom in London’s Hampstead Heath area after an attendant tipped police.

George was released with a warning, termed a “caution” in the U.K.

“We can confirm a 45-year-old man was arrested in the Hampstead Heath area on the 19th of September on the suspicion of possessing drugs,” a Scotland Yard spokesman told the Telegraph. “He was taken to a North London police station where he received a caution and was released with no further action. The caution was for the possession of Class A and Class C drugs, cocaine and cannabis.”

The spokesman went on to say that no further action will be taken against the singer, who was not named.

George just completed his first U.S. tour in 17 years.

“I want to apologize to my fans for screwing up again, and to promise them I’ll sort myself out,” he said in a statement, according to the Associated Press. “And to say sorry to everybody else, just for boring them.”

The arrest wasn’t George’s first – according to the Telegraph, he was fined and given community service in 1998 after a lewd act in a Beverly Hills bathroom, and in February 2006 he was arrested for marijuana possession. He is currently undergoing a two year driving ban thanks to a 2007 arrest for driving under the influence of drugs.
